As the new year approaches, we want to encourage you to sign up for our Preventative Health Care Program. This program provides the best preventive care your horse at a great value.
* Enrollment runs from December 1, 2016 to April 15, 2017
Are you ready for 2017? We are! We are happy to share with you our new Preventative Health Care Programs for 2017. Our Preventative Health Care (PHC) programs provide the best preventive care for your horse at a great value. This year, we are offering 2 plans, Options 1 and 2. In addition to the two plans, we are offering several discounts to optimize the level of care you provide your horse. For our senior horses, we encourage you to add the Geriatric Horse Add On package. With this package we will do some more lab work (ACTH, Insulin and Leptin), this will help us to identify any other issues that may become more of a concern for your horse as they age. For our competition horses or horses that are in heavy work, we encourage you to add the Sport Horse Add On package. New this year is our Chiropractic and Acupuncture Plan which is available as an add on to Option 1 or 2 or by itself.
For those of you new to our PHC Program, we bundle preventive care services together at a discounted rate. All horses receive wellness examinations, appropriate vaccines (based on exposure to other horses and area), yearly dental care and sheath or udder cleaning (sedation included) and three fecal egg counts (necessary to develop an appropriate de-worming strategy).
We offer monthly payment plans for our PHC plans. If you would like to do monthly payments, there will be an additional $35 fee per plan.
Option 1 is designed for the horse that has minimal exposure to other horses, providing basic quality care. This plan consist of one visit in which your horse will receive a wellness exam and nutritional consultation, sedated oral exam and motorized dentistry, sheath or udder cleaning, vaccines (EWT/WNV, PHF and Rabies), a CBC and Chemistry blood work and a Fecal egg count. The plan also includes 2 fecal egg counts that are dropped off at one of our many drop off locations. This plan is $446 per horse, a savings of $60.
Option 2 is designed for the traveling athlete in work seasonally. This plan has two visits and three fecal egg counts. The first visit your horse will receive a wellness exam and nutritional consultation, vaccines (EWT/WNV, Flu/Rhino and PHF), a coggins will be drawn along with a CBC and Chemistry and a fecal egg count. The second fecal egg count is to be dropped off in the summer. The second visit or the Fall visit, will include a physical exam, sedated oral exam with motorized dentistry, sheath or udder cleaning and vaccines (EWT, Rabies, and Flu/Rhino) and a fecal egg count. This plan is $658 per horse, a savings of $107.
The Sport Horse Add-On is designed for horses that are actively showing, Eventing, Fox Hunting, Team Penning, etc. Ideally this package is for any horse in heavy work that is exposed to other horses on a regular basis. With this add-on your horse will receive Balance Films of his/her front feet which will greatly help your vet and farrier to keep your horse sound. 2 chiropractic/acupuncture visits, which will help your horse, perform to his best ability.
The Geriatric Horse Add-On is designed for any horse over the age of 15. The extra tests we will run are ACTH, Insulin, Glucose and Leptin. These all test for metabolic issues so that we can help your older horse be as healthy as possible.
The Chiropractic and Acupuncture Plan is available to any client. This plan is designed for any horse, but especially those that are in heavy work, showing and competing. With this plan, scheduling will be organized by the office on a 5 week basis in order to best utilize Dr. Justin’s time.
When you sign up for the PHC Program appropriate for your horse(s) you can feel good that your horse(s)’ basic preventive medicine costs are covered for the rest of the year. Please ask any staff member or veterinarian to help you choose the best level for your horse. To sign up, you have three options. You can call, email or print out the attachment and fill in the last page and mail it in to us.
We are excited to announce that we have a few new items so that we can provide improved quality of care to you and your horse. In addition to our Class IV Therapeutic Laser which is fantastic for wound healing, tendon and suspensory injuries, DJD, Osteoarthritis and back disorder, we are proud to announce that we now have a Neo Shockwave. Shockwave is great for musculoskeletal problems including soft-tissue injuries and bone injuries (fractured splints). New dental equipment will also be utilized this year including a new motorized float and an oral endoscope with picture and video imaging. New practice software to improve medical history, forms, and invoicing.
As always, payment of time of service is appreciated. Lab work and coggins will not be sent off to the lab until payment has been received and medications will need to be paid for at time of drop off unless we have a credit card on file for your account. If you have any questions about this policy, please give us a call.
Equioxx tablets are now FDA approved for horses. In light of this, we are no longer able to prescribe Previcox off label for horses. We will do our best to have competitive pricing on Equioxx like we have with previcox and there is a rebate available when you purchase the medication from your veterinarian.
We appreciate your choice of South Mountain Equine to meet your horse’s health care needs. As always, if we can be of any further assistance or if you have any comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Please review our Client Forms for additional information on our Wellness Programs.
I just want to take this time to say THANK YOU for finally giving me some answers regarding Denver's lameness.
Since March/April 2015 until now (December 2015), we have been getting mixed diagnosis as to why he would be off, but you came and gave us hope. More importantly, I want to THANK YOU for your patience and amazing 'bedside' manner. Not only did you provide me with solid information and demonstration of compression, and how his conformation defect was affecting his way of going, but you were meticulous in your explanation of the benefits of acupuncture for Denver. You explained everything in such a way, that I would be able to not only understand but remember, and then be able to explain it to all those at our barn who were genuinely concerned about how he's doing or how the Vet visit went. You made me feel very much at ease, like my opinion as his owner mattered, as you would say, "That's good information. Thank You for that" Now, that's a first; the VET Thanking me!! Never once did you make it seem like my questions were irrelevant. You gave us your undivided attention as if we were your only clients that day, and I know we were not because Jessica reminded/alerted you of the time, but you never flinched, never took your eyes off of me as you were explaining everything you did with Denver, and never once appeared rushed. The whole experience of your visit left me committing to making you our Vet of choice. Denver means a lot to me, and the way you treated him, made me think he was more than just a client/horse to you. I can't THANK YOU enough Dr. Sobota!
Ps. By the way, Jessica is an Awesome assistant, and Danielle is Grrr8!!
Dr. Justin and his staff have been our vets for several years now. He has done everything from pre-purchase exams and lameness evaluations to dentals. Each and every time, he and his staff are timely, knowledgeable, and considerate. Their passion for the horses as well as consideration of the owners and barn management is unmatched.
Finally, after looking for years, we found a farm vet with the sophistication and feel for lameness of the vets at the big national-caiber ship-in clinics and equine hospitals. Dr. Justin (Sobota) has great instincts and is well versed in the cutting-edge aspects of equine veterinary medicine, as well as a host of alternative therapies like acupuncture and chiropractic treatments. He asks important questions of and listens well to those who know the horse best, always offers a range of therapeutic options, and thoroughly explains his expectations for treatment results. Perhaps most refreshing, however, is how friendly, helpful and accommodating Dr. Justin and his staff are. We feel lucky to have Dr. Justin as an important part of the Finer Points Farm family.
Dr. Justin Sobota, and his team at South Mountain Equine, are highly skilled, professional, courteous, and helpful. Dr. Sobota has managed our mare in several very difficult clinical situations where diagnosis and treatment were not immediately obvious. He worked diligently to find the source of the problem, spending whatever time necessary with the horse and listening patiently to her owners, until the diagnosis was clear and treatment in place. This is the first practice I’ve dealt with that followed up until the problem was resolved. The follow up extends to routine visits, such as vaccines, as well. South Mountain and Dr. Sobota are always quick to respond to emergency or routine concerns. This level of skill and caring provides a level of support for an owner that results in peace of mind.
Dr. Justin Sobota and South Mountain Equine offer horse owners peace of mind. They are easily accessible to reach for concerns and always willing to talk with owners. Dr. Sobota and his staff are knowledgeable and caring, including their efforts when it comes to follow-up care. After a recent surgical procedure, Dr. Sobota checked in everyday for the first week and still checks in weekly. I would recommend South Mountain Equine to any horse owner.
